Bloomsburg Football Wins 13th Straight Game

CHEYNEY--Bloomsburg University (8-0, 5-0 PSAC East) rolled up 538 yards of total offense and ran its third-best in the nation winning streak to 13 with a 43-7 win over Cheyney University (0-8, 0-5 PSAC East) on Saturday.

The 13 straight wins is the second longest streak in school history (record is 14) and the third longest in all of college football behind Tuskegee (D-II) at 21 wins and 19 for Wisconsin-Whitewater (D-III).

Playing without its top two tailbacks out due to a one-game suspension, Bloomsburg rushed for 393 with both James Sweeting III (Hughesville/Hughesville) and Marc Best (Bushkill/East Stroudsburg North) gaining over 100 yards on the ground. Sweeting ran for a career-high 116 yards, while Best rushed for a career-high 104 yards.

The Huskies scored on their opening drive of the game when Stefan Adams (West Chester/Henderson) scored on a 14-yard run to cap an 11-play, 80-yard drive and got a two-point run for an 8-0 lead.

Bloomsburg added to its lead with three second period scores. Ryan Barr (Fayetteville, GA/Starrs Mill) caught a 35-yard scoring pass from Dan Latorre (Elysburg/Southern Columbia), then, Adams scored on runs of three and 22 yards for a 29-0 Huskies lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Huskies rested many of their regulars, but still put two scores on the board. Kyle Ream (Eliottsburg/West Perry) caught a four-yard scoring pass from backup quarterback Mike Wagner (Hershey/Hershey) on the opening drive of the third period, then Mike Quintans (Media/Penncrest) scored on a six-yard run early in the fourth period. Cheyney's lone score came on a 58-yard pass from Ronald Thompson to Darryl Jones in the third period.

Adams finished with 73 yards rushing on 11 carries and three touchdowns, while Mike Varanavage made five tackles to lead the defense.

Bloomsburg plays at Shippensburg next Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
